The Judicial Police located the drug shipment inside fruit boxes / The final destination would be several European criminal organizations, according to the logos located on the packages
The Judicial Police of Portugal, through the National Unit for the Fight against Drug Trafficking, carried out a police operation in recent days in which they managed to locate and seize about three and a half tons of cocaine that had just arrived on the national territory, more specifically at a seaport, inside a container. The country has beaten all the historical records of drug caches in 2024, with operations such as this one or the one executed in August, which resulted in the seizure of more than 6,000 kilos.
The seized drugs, totaling 3,458 kilos, were hidden inside boxes of bananas, packed on several pallets and transported in the holds of a freighter-type vessel that regularly transports fruits between Latin America and the European continent. As is customary when the drug is hidden among bananas, the packages were covered with plastics in green tones.
Given the large number of pallets of bananas that were transported on the boat, the detection of the drug was only possible thanks to a long and thorough work carried out by the investigators of this Police. According to the information gathered so far, everything indicates that the seized drug was intended for distribution in several European countries, starting with Spain. The logos of the packages are varied, with different numbering and anagrams that imitate Maserati, for example.
The operation, named Acácias, which was developed as part of an ongoing investigation, had the collaboration and support of the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Narcotics Maritime Analysis and Operations Center (MAOC-N).
