Could one make bromobenzene with benzene, hydrobromic acid, and iron wire?

I've read that ferric bromide might be needed, and that can be made with iron and HBr, but I don't know if pure bromine is needed for the halogenation of benzene.

Thank you.

Yes, via a Friedel-Crafts alkylation, they use iron filings, so suggest you get out you file 😃 I think you can use any of these also
  • Hydrogen gas (H2) with a catalyst, such as palladium on carbon (Pd/C)
  • Iron (Fe) filings
  • Zinc (Zn)
  • Sodium (Na) metal
