HCN isnt too dangerous tbh because its watersoluble just open ur windows besides while distilling bzcn can hurt your eyes (although benzyl chlorides worse lol) it probably wont kill u

Thinking theoretically of the pre-precursors of benzyl cyanide
* a scientist named Chemplayer did a video of the synthesis of sodium cyanide+ benzyl chloride to ---> benzyl cyanide*
Benzyl chloride is a regulated , List II chemical so buying a gallon a year under $100 is safe "under radar by Feds" is okay
Benzyl chloride is a nasty chemical that can be used as Tear Gas !
??? Wouldn't the synthesis from benzyl alcohol + HCl (aq) to ----> benzyl chloride ?
? would be a rather nasty, dangerous chemical reaction?
The Tear Gas fumes, having to distill the final product with those awful Tear Gas fumes vapors from distilling to high quality purity for the next step/ usage ?????
Would it just be safer to buy benzyl chloride directly ?!
OR BETTER YET JUST BUY A BENZYL CYANIDE DIRECTLY AND SKIP THE FEAR OF THE TEAR GAS LOL

nah benzyl alc or toluene photochlorination is the way to go for benzyl chloride. Also you ***WILL*** be raided if you try buy benzyl chloride from any sources other than china and even if you are buying from our friendly regime and partner i doubt its getting through customs due to it being a *wellknown* (least in duh border forcies) meth(and other things) precursor
BUT
instead of buying it or synthesizing it id just do benzyl alc oxidation with bleach,aldol with MEK, oxidation with percarbonate then amination
I am only giving advice for this route however as we are in this thread lol it is genuinely not that bad just do the distillation outside (SWIM made potassium cyanide in the fucking woods once lmao) however this is genuinely one of the worst routes possibly concieved imo theres just so many better ways and all this for fucking unsubbed boring P2P
TLDR;
just dont do this route not worth it much easier higher yielding routes are around
